In Europe and the western world Easter is a magical time of year, but for South Americans "Semana Santa" (Holy Week) is an incredibly important time for the millions of catholic people that live in this wonderful continent.
South American people are very social and love to party at the best of times, but Semana Santa offers so much more, with street festivities, ceremonial processions, magnificent feasts and incredible decorations adorning the villages, towns and cities across the continent.
If you are thinking of travelling to South America during Easter the most famous celebrations occur in Ayacucho and Cusco in Peru, Ouro Preto in Brazil and Quito in Ecuador (see the street processions!), although you can find similar festivities in Bolivia, Colombia, Argentina and elsewhere.
Wherever you are, wherever 2016 will take you, happy travelling and Felices Pascuas.
